Senior High School students highlighted fitness and Filipino culture through traditional and modern dances in the first-ever Physical Education Culminating Day program held at the CVCITC Function Hall on September 27, 2019. To ignite students’ enthusiasm and determination, the program was arranged as a competition of different sections of the same grade level. Grade 12 students showcased their skills and knowledge in dancing different Filipino folkdances namely, Singkil, Karatong Subli, Gaway-Gaway and Tinikling. Meanwhile, Grade 11 students displayed their creativity in their self-choreographed Zumba routine. Proving they are not only logico-mathematically intelligent but also bodily-kinesthetically adept, STEM11-Mapanuri and STEM12-Commitment were adjudged as champions of Zumba and Folkdance competitions, respectively. Bannering the theme: “Zumba and folkdance towards embracing Filipino Culture”, Regie Cariño, PE teacher, organized the event to culminate his 20-hour Physical Education course as students applied their learning gains thru performance arts. “Thank you so much for their [students] cooperation to this much awaited event PE culminating day and it is such an honor and great opportunity for students to share their hidden talents thru dance,” Cariño said. Students narrated how they prepared for the event from daily practices to struggles with budget and time management. “Ayaw ni sir na ni-la-“lang” namin ang PE kaya nag-effort talaga kami para sa performance namin,” said one ABM-11 student. The board of judges was composed of the following evaluators: 1) Jonathan Gamet, Senior High School teacher at Cabarroguis National School of Arts & Trades; 2) Vins Victor Ronquillo, Adviser of a school-based socio-cultural group at Saint Mary’s Academy of Diffun; 3) Jackielyn Lacebal, Media and Information Literacy Teacher; and 4) Jhozen Joy Dappanan, former CVCITC SHS Faculty member

The City Population Office – Santiago City, headed by Mamerto Gabriel, City Population Head of the LGU – Santiago City, discussed the different contested activities under the Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) Program for the month of November, in a meeting with representatives from different schools in Santiago held at the Senior Citizen’s Hall on August 20, 2019. Johanna Mercy C. Gabriel, LPT, AHD Focal Person, oriented the School Principals and Guidance Staff regarding the Search for the Sustainable Teen Center U4U Desk for Senior High Schools. To establish the Teen Center, Gabriel said that the school needs to create an initial list of facilities and organizations providing AHD information services for the adolescents within the locality, gather and consolidate institutional policy support for the establishment of the Teen Center, design and operationalize the AHD Teen Center, and monitor and evaluate the quality of service and performance in teen center. “Teen Center gives teenagers a safe place to socialize and hang out and reduces the chances that they will engage in a problematic behavior,” Gabriel said in an interview. The evaluation for the Most Sustainable Teen Center and U4U Desk will be on November 2019. Last year, the Sangguniang Panglungsod approved the resolution encouraging all public and secondary schools to establish school-based Teen Center and U4U Desk sponsored by Hon. Lyka Angela E. Posidio, SK Federation President

CVCITC Quizzers hesitated in their answers in the moderate and difficult round causing them a 4th place finish in the Science and Technology Quiz Bee - Division level held at Santiago South Central School, August 20.
  To earn their ticket in the Division-level, CVCITC bagged 2nd Place, during the North Cluster-level of the Quiz Bee, only three points behind the champion Sagana National High School.
 If not for a missing unit of measurement in their answer during the difficult round, they could have been tied with the champion, SNHS at 18 points and could have overtaken them on the clincher round.
 Nevertheless, the CVCITC squad, composed of STEM11 students namely Paulo Calderon, Kenneth Kimpo and King Michael Sugimoto still qualified for the Division Level together with SNHS.#

Youth for Environment in Schools – Organization (YES-O), in partnership with the Supreme Student Government relaunched Project PAZ in a program held at the CVCITC Function Hall on July 5, 2019. Now on its third year, the restructured YES-O currently led by Tessa Joy Castro, adviser, debuted thru this program as the new officers discussed guidelines CVCITCians must follow concerning cleanliness and peace in the school. To bring more enthusiasm to every CVCITCians, competitions on most clean classrooms and best maintained garden were also launched. Each section will have to maintain the cleanliness of their classroom, keeping it free from any litter from the first period until the last. Each section will also have to sustain their assigned “thematic indoor garden in their respective floors. Project PAZ (Peaceful and Amiable Zone), which was conceived by Dr. Cristina G. Gallato, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, is the social service arm of the institution, named after the late Paz Taguinod, wife of Redentor Taguinod, CVCITC founder and the current College President. This project aims to continue her legacy on community relations and extension services, the flagship program and projects of the institution have been refined in order to commemorate her. Dr. Gallato talked about how this program have been helping in maintaining upkeep in the school. She also shared some memories of the late Mrs. Taguinod of her activities in her own Project Paz

Giving of assignments is a Sway to learn more and for self-study. In House Bill 388, teachers are prohibited from giving assignments to their students if they will be done during weekends (Saturday and Sunday). According to the proponent of this measure, homework has negative effects on children in other countries because it takes the time that is supposed to be allotted for their families. However, for the Alliance of Concerned Teacher (ACT), it is impossible for teachers not to give students homework under the K to 12 basic education program. The context and scope of the current curriculum is deliberately comprehensive, and the time spent in school is not enough for the children to learn what they are supposed to learn. The continuous learning of children outside school is important for them to have discipline and to become responsible. Teachers are considered to be the key why there are doctors, policemen, engineers, nurses, lawyers, in short professionals. They are giving their efforts and sacrifices everyday to ensure their students have learned, and review for more understanding. They mold us. They have been once students, and they already know what makes students succeed. Do parents check out really what their children are doing after school? Do any of them help in household chores? Or are their hours spent on computers and playing even if, according to the “Save the Children Philippines”, they are at school from five to eight hours every day? Practically, it has been observed that students, nowadays do their assignments at school not at home, rushing and cheating on and with their classmates who have already done their tasks. Moreover, children at the elementary level, have been already trained by their parents to complete their homeworks first before going to play outside with their friends. How can they say that this will affect their family bonding when in fact, they have phones with internet, chatting with friends, scrolling on Facebook, playing Mobile Legends, watching on YouTube and many more? Homework helps sharpen the learning process of children. In the end, children’s education, whether inside or outside the school, it cannot be measured alone by their ability to finish assignments. Implementing “No Homework Policy” leads to student’s laziness in studying. They become complacent, just relying on what the teacher is teaching them for the day inside the classroom. Activities are conducted, yes, but it’s not a hundred percent sure that all of the students have learned. They need also to practice reviewing at night. With this, their computers and phone are used for researching and learning. It is the parent’s duty to guide their children to grow mature. Setting them free, by removing one of their essential responsibilities in their age level, is pushing them into retrogression. Students should know their responsibilities. How could they handle “big” responsibilities in the future if “small” responsibilities like their assignments are removed from their life? It is not helping them to learn how to prioritize matters if one of the things they have to do, which is their assignment, is also removed from them. “No Homework Policy” is not the solution, nor an assurance that students will be spending their “free time” with their parents. It is the students’ attitude to manage their time they spend in learning, playing and family-bonding that will be the key in achieving a balanced life.#
