Cagayan Valley Computer and Information Technology College, Inc., a non-stock and non-profit organization established in 1997, started its community extension/outreach program as trainers of computer technology-based activities to community leaders and professionals.  The recipients were invited in a classroom-based tutorial extended by its faculty volunteers. In 2008-09, CVCITC opened its doors to all interested teachers and students who thirst with computer knowledge and application.  Its institutionalized formal community extension project started after its partnership with Pangkaunlaran Development Project under their Education Log Frame Program in 2008-09.  Its first recipient was the Manuel L. Quezon High School in San Isidro Isabela followed by the Doña Josefa Edralin Marcos High School in Cordon, Isabela.

The basic aims of Pangkaunlaran Development Project under their Education Log Frame Program had ceased its project in 2013-14 and the operation for its four partner high schools in San Isidro, Isabela and Cordon, Isabela had stopped including the Lingap Eskwela Development Project of CVCITC where the Unveiling my Aptitude Program that integrates its major source of data for the improvement of clientele cover the foundation for community extension program on livelihood activities.  Nevertheless, CVCITC, instead of having its business-related project work in San Isidro and Cordon, Isabela, the departmental projects were implemented through the outreach activities within the vicinity of Santiago City.

Candy making was introduced to the recipient barangays.  Results of product plans and feasibility studies were used as the bases of livelihood projects in the form of demonstration and training to the households of San Andres, Santiago City. Now, a long term plan was determined for partnership contract with the identified barangays of Cordon, Isabela and through the able assistance of the Teachers and Parents of Children of Doña Josefa Edralin Marcos High School, in Cordon, Isabela.

In summary, the projects that were undertaken in the past dwelt on:

1. Developmental projects - those anchored on the development framework directed at empowering people so that they themselves define the kind of development they wish to attain to improve their quality of life

2. Facilitative projects - those projects undertaken with other organizations or in cooperation with other linkages

3. Supplemental projects - mostly in the form of donations in cash or in kind, gift-giving like foods and clothing and other basic needs and requirements.

CVCITC shall continue to do the same with some innovations in its implementation/delivery, the end goal of which is community development and empowerment.

Community relations and extension services refer to the programs, projects, plans and activities being conducted by the college both within and outside of its premises as a major reflection of its vision, mission, goals and objectives. These are over and above the community service projects undertaken by the college along its NSTP program which is a requirement of an academic curricular program.  Activities that are voluntarily conducted by the administration, teaching and non-teaching personnel, students, alumni and other stakeholders are for the primary benefit of the beneficiaries, i.e. the marginalized sectors of the society. Such activities are major community-based programs in which the CVCITC community are involved with the hope of helping to elevate the standard of living of its target-beneficiaries.

Project PAZ is named after the founder’s spouse, the late Madam PAZ CHAVEZ TAGUINOD, who has passed away in 2015. In order to continue her legacy on community relations and extension services, the flagship program/projects of the college are further refined in order to uphold her name.  PAZ means peace, hence, the acronym PAZ that stands for Peaceful and Amiable Zone is adapted, which encompasses the following projects:

1. Environmental Preservation

Along environmental preservation, Project PAZ signifies the “Preservation of Agricultural Zone” through the formation of a school pocket garden that can be implemented by the adopted barangay. Further, it also includes the promotion of cleanliness, orderliness, healthy and safe life in the campus through its “Clean As You Go” program. It also includes fruit-bearing tree planting along the barangay roads.

In line with its IDEOLOGY TOWARDS CREATION, Cagayan Valley Computer and Information Technology College (CVCITC), Santiago City is a steward of creation. It understands that its very existence and that of future generations are threatened by environmental degradation.  CVCITC pledges to be a more discerning institution by using all environmental resources properly and prudently. It develops in a conscious effort to preserve and protect the environment against further degradation. It shall treat the environment as its own masterpiece, giving it great care and priding itself of its wonders and beauty. It shall be ever thankful of the grace of God and the dedication of CVCITC family in their work to ensure that the community at large has clean air to breath, clean water to drink, clean ocean to launch adventures and above all, a life that’s worthy to be shared to the next generations.

2. Promotion of peace in the Community

A peaceful community implies a happy community; hence, Project PAZ would mean a peaceful and amiable zone wherein the residents can roam around the community freely and without violence.  CVCITC shall strive to help in the prevention of domestic violence through its students and faculty participation in sports and socio-cultural activities in the community. Moreover, peaceful and amiable zone could mean a drug-free environment.  CVCITC shall strive to help the government in its campaign against the rampant use of illegal drugs.

3. Livelihood Projects

A peaceful and amiable community is economically sound. Another activity under Project PAZ is embodied in the Productivity enhancement through the Adoption of a Poverty-Stricken Zone.  Thus, another project is the production/promotion of local products like local candies, local rice cakes (patupat), dishwashing liquid and detergents under Livelihood Projects, to name a few.
